We will tour the famous Buddhist stupa, The Bauddhanath that is also known as Little Tibet, then tour the famous Hindu temple, The Pashupatinath. A 15 minute drive then takes us to Shyambunath (Monkey Temple). A short drive to Thamel for lunch and then the rest of the day is free.
If you are not interested in this tour you may do your own thing and prepare for your next day departure.
Day 4. Fly to Lukla and trek Phakding (2600)
Today we will transfer to the airport early in the morning. Your tour leader would have let you know the departure and breakfast time before going to bed last night. After a 35 minute flight by small twin water aircraft you will land at airport in Lukla. Sir Edmund Hillary and his friends built this small airport when he started his project of building schools and hospitals to serve the local people in the Everest region. This flight will be very exciting and memorable with the views of the eastern Himalayas. After landing at Lukla, we will meet our trekking crews and will start our trek.
After walking about 2 hours, we will have a hot lunch prepared by our cook and kitchen helpers. After lunch we will trek to our campsite. Our trekking trail will descend by a few meters and then on to gradual flats to Phakding. We will come cross other trekkers and porters and also yaks on the way. You will see your first Buddhist Mani walls (carved on the stone). Buddhist people always walk clockwise around the Mani walls. (B. L. D.)
Day 5. Trek to Namche (3400 m)
We will start our trek after breakfast to Namche Bazaar. We will enter the Sagarmatha National Park area today. Entrance permit will be checked before you enter in the National Park. After a couple of hours walking, we will stop for lunch and then continue the trek. We will cross the Dudhkoshi River (Milkey River) and a few suspension bridges. You might feel a little bit of altitude climbing to Namche Bazaar. Our trail is gradual uphill to Namche after crossing the last suspension bridge. (B. L. D.)
We will see our first Mani wall today. These stone structures are a compilation of many stone tablets, each with the inscription "Om mani padme hum" which translates to "hail to the jewel in the lotus" and is a mantra (chant) venerated by Bhuddhists. Bhuddhists will walk to the left of these Mani walls and chorten but you may notice that people of the lowlands who have no knowledge of Buddhisim do not follow this practice.
Day 6. Rest day in Namche (3400 m)
Namche is a small town of Sherpa inhabitants. Today is our rest day for acclimatization. You may do a half-day hike to Everest View Hotel or wonder around the Namche bazaar. Today is one of the challenging days of this trip. We will cross the pass and admire the views of Gokyo valley. Crossing this pass will be an exciting day and probably require the use of ropes to ascend and descend for support and to be on the safe side where access is difficult. It will also depend on the trail conditions. There is some chance that we might meet some Tibetan traders descending from the Nagpa La pass that leads through the Himalayas from Tibet with their caravans of woolly yaks loaded with goods. (B. L. D.)
Day 12. Rest day. Hike to Gokyo Peak (5483 m)
Today we will have a rest day at Gokyo Lake or for those with enough energy we will ascend Gokyo Peak early in the morning to grab the sunrise view. It will take about 3-4 hours to get to the top depending on your level of fitness and acclimatization. You have to walk at your own pace, it is not a race. It may take up 6-7 hours for those who thought they could not make it at all! Gokyo Peak is one of the best spots to view this region. It will take only about 1-1 and half hours to descend down to campsite. (B. L. D.)
Day 13. Cross Glacier and stay Dragnak (4750m)
A short trekking day but very interesting. We leave mid morning to trek across the Longsamba Glacier viewing the moraine and ice pools. We arrive in Dragnak and settle in for the night. (B. L. D.)
Day 14 Trek Dragnak to Base of Cho La Pass (Yak Kharkha 4800m)

Day 15. Cho La cross (5420) and camp at Zongla (4843 m)
This is another challenging pass. Depending on the weather conditions, we will start early in the morning. It will take about 2-3 hours to reach the top. From the top of the pass to Zongla will depend on the trail and snow conditions. A group co-ordination is required on this day. This is one of our most challenging days of the trek. We will have a packed lunch today instead of hot lunch. (B. L. D.)
