The Fascinating Journey:
the bund pudong-from-the-bundWe take the ancient Silk Rd across China stopping at iconic and historical sites dating back to 300BC. The journey follows the world’s greatest ancient trade routes. Travel from Shanghai to the ancient city of Lanzhou. Then take the Silk Road Railway to witness the Western end of the Great Wall and desert fortresses at Jaiyuguan.
Ride a camel in the desert and visit the spectacular Mogao Caves from Dunhuang and visit the stunning Heavenly Lake from Urumqi. Travel to the oasis town of Turpan and the frontier town of Kashgar. Experience the rich convergence of cultures and religions.

Day 1: Thur 1st Oct - Sydney / Shanghai
Meeting at the airprort.
Transfer & Overnight at Holiday Inn Express hotel.

Day 2: Fri 2nd Oct - Shanghai
Xiahe TempleFull day visiting Bund and sights of the Yu Garden, Jade Buddha temple, Xintiandi. Visit Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shang Hai World Financial Centre,
Overnight Shang Hai at Holiday Inn Express.

Day  3: Sat 3rd Oct  - Shanghai - Lanzhou
Take morning FM 9215 flights to Lanzhou (8:35 /11:00). Stop by the capital of the Gansu Province on the banks of the rushing Lanzhou River.
Overnight in a hotel in Lanzhou.

Days  4: Sun 4th Oct  - Lanzhou - Xiahe
Referred to as little Tibet. A stunning town surrounded by mountains and bustling with pilgrims. Overnight in Xiahe Overseas Tibetan Hotel.

Day  5: Mon 5th Oct  - Xiahe/Lanzhou/Jiayuguan
Silk Road Railway. Make friends with local Uyghurs and watch the desert unfold on this spectacular journey.

Day  6: Tue 6th Oct  - Jiayuguan   
Silk Rd Camels Jiayuguan is western most end of the great wall of china built by the Ming Dynasty. Jiayu fortress set betweenthe mountains of Qilian and Mazong.

Day  7: Wed 7th Oct  - Jiayuguan / Dunhuang
Dunhuang is an Oasis town surrounded by rolling sand dunes and home to countless camels. Take a camel ride at Crescent Moon Spring and Singing Sand Dunes. Visit the museum to see the incredible system of wells bringing water from the mountains to the Oasis town.  
Overnight in Dunhuang Hotel.

Day  8: Thu 8th Oct  - Dunhuang / Turpan
Flanked by the Flaming Mountains, this lush oasis is still an important stop for travellers. Visit the Magao Caves – home of the world acclaimed buddhist murals and sculptures dated back to 386AD.
We take the overnight train to Turpan

Arrive early morning check in to the hotel. Visit the the flaming mountains and Thousand Budha caves. Visit Grape Valley for lunch and a tour of the amazing 2,000 year old irrigation canals. Tonight we have dinner with a local Uygur family
Overnight in  hotel.    

Day  10: Sat 10th Oct  - Turpan – Urumqi - Kashgar B,
Visit the ancient city of Jiaohe. (The best preserved ancient clay city in the world) and the Sugong Tower.
We take a late afternoon flight to Kashgar.

Day 11: Sun 11th Oct – Kashgar (B,L,D)
Flight Kashgar to Urumqi
Traders spill into town every Sunday for one of Asia's largest livestock markets in the morning. In the afternoon visit Id Kah Mosque (the largest Mosque in China).   

Kashgar Animal MarketDay  12:  Mon 12th Oct  - Kashgar – Lake Karakul   B,L,D
The Karakul or Karakuli ("black lake") is a lake located 200 km from Kashgar on the Karakoram Highway, before reaching Tashkurgan, the Khunjerab Pass on the China - Pakistan border and Sost in Pakistan.
At an altitude of 3,600 m, it is the highest lake of the Pamir plateau, near the junction of the Pamir, Tian Shan and Kunlun mountain ranges. Surrounded by mountains which remain snow-covered throughout the year, the three highest peaks visible from the lake are the Muztagh Ata (7,546 m), Kongur Tagh (7,649 m) and Kongur Tiube (7,530 m). The lake is popular among travellers for its beautiful scenery and the clarity of its reflection in the water, whose color ranges from a dark green to azure and light blue.

Day  13:  Tues 13th Oct  - Karakul - Kashgar   B,L,D
After breakfast, we take a trek around the lake. Then drive back to Kashgar. Overnight in hotel.

Silk Rd Black Lake karakulDay 14: Wed 14th October – Kashgar – Urumqi (B,L,D)
Flight Kashgar to Urumqi
Traders spill into town every Sunday for one of Asia's largest livestock markets in the morning. In the afternoon visit Id Kah Mosque (the largest Mosque in China). We catch a flight to Urumqi.

Day 15: Thurs 15th Oct – Urumqi   B,L,D
Today drive to the Lake of Heaven ("Heavenly Lake") to enjoy breathtaking views of a crystal clear lake at the top of this stunning mountain range. This evening, sample a local specialty meal of the Uyghur people: Lamb Skewers.  Overnight in Urumqi hotel.

Day 16: Thurs 16th Oct – Urumqi – Shanghai
Kashgar Food MarketVisit the Xinjiang province Museum, and international
Bazzar in Urumqi. Your Silk Road journey ends today. Take the opportunity to have a look around before an airport transfer. Flight to Shanghai arrives in the afternoon.
Overnight Shang Hai at Holiday Inn Express.

Day 17: Fri 17th Oct – Shanghai
Wake up in this fascinating city for a final  day of leisure. In the afternoon we take a Cruise on Huangpu river by boat. Tonight we have our farewell dinner. 
Overnight Shang Hai at Holiday Inn Express.

Day 18: Sat 18th Oct – Shanghai - Sydney
Your journey ends with an airport transfer.

Day 19: Sun 19th Oct – Arrive Sydney
